INTRANETS
An intranet is a private network within an organisation that is built on the same principles and technology as the internet and is accessed through a normal web browser. The network is private and protected either by being offline (not connected to the internet) or by having access controls in place like username and password authentication.
One of the main benefits of having a business intranet is the ability to share information, documents and software easily through your network. Employees working on the same project in different locations can have instant access to the latest updated versions of important files, or gain access to a piece of software located on another server, just by accessing the intranet and without the confusion sometimes created by files moving backwards and forwards over email, fax or by post.
